Target launches paid loyalty program to compete with Amazon Prime

Given Amazon Prime’s huge footprint and rapidly growing Walmart+, it was only a matter of time before Target entered the fray.

On Tuesday, the company did just that, announcing a new paid loyalty program called “Target Circle 360.” Members will pay $99 per year, but the company will start the program at a fee of $49 for those who sign up between April 7th and May 18th. This $49 fee will remain the standard rate for Target Circle cardholders after the promotional period. )

Members of our paid loyalty program receive free two-day shipping on orders of $35 or more, as well as unlimited free same-day shipping in as little as one hour.

CEO Brian Cornell told analysts: “Our goal is to regain profitable sales, traffic and market share gains by expanding our target differentiation and what’s better for our customers.” ” he said.

The news comes as the retailer plans to open more than 300 new stores and upgrade many older ones, following stronger-than-expected profits.

Target Circle 360 was born in part from the company’s acquisition of Shipt in 2017. His $550 million deal puts the company in the same-day delivery wars. Program members also get access to Shipt’s retail marketplace, giving them access to more than just Target.

“With this new foundation in place, we’re making sure our customers get the most out of their Target shopping experience by adding exclusive partnerships, product offers, and more perks and benefits based on what matters most to them. Let’s go,” Carla said. Sylvester, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Digital Officer, Target. “This goes back full circle, just as a joke, to the way people shop today. Shopping is dynamic, and so are we.”
